    • I believe them.  If they are saying it to be nice...my question is why?   Why would you compliment someone if you don’t mean it?  Of course if you work with the public and have to find something nice to say to someone you really do not know...you can find something you like about them...and compliment them.  Even if you really don’t like it...you might have made someone’s day....or made them feel good about themselves when originally they were down. I really don’t dwell on it...I just do what I think is the right thing to do or say!

    • In my younger years I was always excited when people complimented me on my long hair, etc.  When I told my mom she would always be negative by saying “Don’t you know people don’t mean it, they‘re just trying to be nice“.  For the longest time, that message was in me and instead of saying thank you I either would not respond or say something negative.  Fortunately, co-workers brought it up to me and now I believe.  It really doesn’t matter anymore.

    • I understand how that made you feel Linda. I’m sure it was hard to get over those negative feelings.
But if you had that many people telling you they liked your long hair, then I would say it must be true.

99% of the time...if I tell you I like something on you or about you...I truly do~!

Maryclark, you‘re right about saying something nice to make their day.  When kids at my work are sad, saying something positive always helps.

Cynthia, I didn’t know we were long lost sisters. LOL

    • I have to agree on who said the compliment and how it was said. There are people at my job I can’t stand (and since it’s obvious that I don’t like them because I never speak to them), if they say something to me about something I’m wearing, my reaction is the coldest thank you that can ever be uttered. That’ll make them think twice before opening their mouths again.

There are some people who constantly compliment to be nice and some are just suck ups, LOL. One of my coworkers loved a pair of sandals I had on and she almost knocked me down trying to get to see them up close. Cracked me up. But personally I don't say anything unless I mean it, and if it's something I really like, say a great color of purple, I say to the person "before you go home tonight take it off and leave it on my desk, thank you."

    • I have to admit that sometimes I give a compliment to be nice but it’s sincere. If I’m in public and I see someone with a sad looking face or a woman who seems to have low self esteem, I look for something I can pay a compliment to them with. But it’s always sincere. And I don’t say it if it would seem out of place. I usually wait until there’s some eye contact or another opportunity.

    • I personally have a tendency to not believe compliments.....1) because I had the same mother as Linda & Cynthia and 2) because I tend to always think the absolute worst about myself.

When I look at myself I rarely see the positive things I always see the faults/negative things 1st and foremost.  It’s starting to become a huge problem with my husband as he’s been more than patient trying to convince me that I’m not the troll under the bridge........unfortunately while my heart knows he’s nothing but honest with me, my head continues to play it’s silly little games........

If anyone has the secret for shutting off this venomous creature please let me know!

    • I can always find some kind of compliment, I love seeing other’s smile.
I would never just say anything because I felt I had to.
It would have to be sincere.
I have never met a person that I couldn’t give a sincere compliment. I can find a positive quality in anyone.

PJ, I can relate. I find it hard to accept compliments. I feel uncomfortable, I don’t feel that I deserve it for one reason or another. It’s those crazy voices in my head..LOL

Term...that video is for YOU too!! Look in that mirror....say what she did....LOL

Lisa..that is how I feel.  You never know your kind words might just make their day....just like it makes my day when someone says I look like I’ve lost weight....happy
