When do you stop worrying about your college age child?

Best Answer

You never stop worrying about your children. At college age they have so much freedom. They are exposed to so many other influences outside the home. I pray that they make the right decisions and that the Lord will protect them from harm and give them wisdom.

As much as I love my children I know the Lord love them more.

They don’t realize the angst we feel, they are having too much fun. Just trust that you have laid a really good foundation for him and PRAY!

    • Agreed with Janie, never.  My parents are still worrying about me.  That’s the beauty and the beast.  We will never stop worry and we will just learn a better and different coping skill.

    • Okay, don’t get me started, I was off to bed! ATL wives, so tacky. OC wives, tacky but fun! Did you see where Lauri left the show this week! I like Jeana, she is the most real of all the wives. Tamra is plastic, but I love that she’s that way! Vicki needs to have a fling, her husband is a robot! Gretchen, well I admire how she takes care of her dad, oops, fiance‘! LOL!

If you watched ATL, I hear that one of them has lost their home to foreclosure since the show! Ne Ne is her name.

    • Girl, they were too much! Mostly wives of professional ball players.
I prefer OC, I guess being from California I relate to the women, not their lifestyle. Coto (where they live) is so exclusive and gated, they would shoot at this brown girl for driving past the gate! LOL!
The new housewife is 30 and her man looks to be in his 60’s. He has leukemia and she takes care of him and he buys her BIG bling!
Jeana (the realtor) has split from her hubby but he still lives at the house. She let him move back. He’s still a jerk.
Vicki (insurance agent) and her husband are like oil and water. They don’t seem to even like each other much.
Tamra (last years new wife) and her hubby are still happy. her son moved out and they just celebrated their 10th anniversary.
Lauri (got married last year)and her hubby are great, but her son sunk deeper into drug abuse. He’s in jail now, he had turned to heroin! She left the show to deal with family issues.

My mom and dad always worry about me and I’m 45! If I am not going to be in church, I make sure I call my dad to let him know so he will not worry about me, remember I said I’m 45 - LOL. But if I don’t call him, he will call me after church and ask WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?

    • I agree with Darla.  My first born comes home today from his first semester away.  He was home at Thanksgiving, but it went so quickly.  This time we have a few weeks of sleep deprivation, waiting to hear him come in or call.

While I know they get accustomed to the freedom while they‘re away, there is also an expectation (at our house anyway) that the rest of us need to be considered when it comes to his needs for a car and his desire to stay out late.  We’ve asked him to be mindful of the rest of us, be respectful of the “house-rules” and be responsible....especially since he’s usually driving MY CAR!  or my husband’s nice little sports car.

Anyway, I can’t imagine never worrying about my boys, maybe just a little less at some point?

    • The worrying about them never stops.  You worry yourself sick the night they quit college.  You worry when they do graduate that they’ll never find a decent job.

But if you’ve raised them right, they‘re going to follow the right path.

I know I shouldn’t worry about my two girls who are grown.  They‘re both such level headed kids, but I worry anyway.

And I disagree with Teeky.  I worried more when one got married.  Was he treating her right?  Were they going to be ok financially?  Etc, etc, etc.  Turns out he wasn’t treating her right and then I worried about how she’d survive the divorce.

Nope, it never ends.  Grown kids aren’t any easier than little ‘uns.
