Q & A

I have some very hard decisions to make and one is a living trust or a will. My husband can’t help me he’s to close so I’m asking please for help with what you think is better if you needed to make the choice and why. We do have an attorney but I want unbiased opinions please let me know your thoughts on this.

    • If you happen to have a religion, that’s another way to go by with your church’s teachings. IMHO.

    • I would defer to an attorney or someone with knowledge to guide me in making the best decision. Maybe some of the other ladies here may have had experience with either. I’m not there yet. Good luck.heart

    • Start writing down what you want and hope for that will make your loved ones life easier  during and after your illness, then take it to an attorney or a paralegal who works with wills and living trusts. I know this is a scary time for you, but working on this will help.

      All the best to you,
      Cathie

    • Are you asking if you need to have a living trust or will?  If so..the answer is definitely yes!!!  A living trust really is better but it will cost you more money to have drawn up.

You need to make a list of your possessions..what you want to go to who....etc.
You need to make a decision on whether you want to be kept alive with tube feeding...or vent....if there is nothing else that can be done. Example:
For me....if I’m brain dead...I want them to pull the plug. I do not want to lie in a bed for years..with no chances of getting better. Set me free...
Tube feeding..well...this is how it was explained to me by a doctor (this was concerning my mother who had alzheimers for over 12 years)...if the body is trying to shut down and tube feeding is administered...it is actually painful to the patient.  If there is nothing else that can be done for me...I certainly do not want to prolong my life.  So not fair to the patient or to the family.  I think it’s selfish for a family to keep someone on artificial means when there is no hope of recovery.

I have a living will....and I like the fact that I have called the shots to the end. My wishes will be met.

I agree...your best bet is to consult with an attorney who specializes in living trusts or wills.  Living trusts are usually set up for people who have a substantial amount of money.  Either way...everyone should have a will!!  Hope this helps.

    • estatic thanks Mary, I know I need one it’s the circumstances that make the choices needed sooner than later. We have a lawyer for other things and he refered me to one that specializes in living trusts only because it is a conflict of interests.
My husband and I have one together but now I need one for things and such for myself. Wasn’t sure if it would be better for living trust or will since somethings are covered in the first one but I need a seperate one for other things now.
Thank you ladies for your input. Hugs to allheart
