Q & A

Does anyone have any good suggestions on hair products that help with thinning hair or breakage? What about vitamins to strengthen hair?

    • My mom and I swear by biotin. It’s a B vitamin, water soluble, safe to take in large doses and inexpensive.

I was losing hair after perimenopause set in. I’ve been taking it every day for about a year now and my stylist has noticed a big difference in the amount of hair that comes out in the comb when I see her every 4 weeks. I’ve noticed at home, too. I don’t have as much hair in the shower after I shampoo.

    • I like the vitamins from Nioxin... they have biotin in them along with some other good stuff.

You really need to 1st determine WHY your hair is thinning and breaking. Is it chemical/manual damage, stress, change in your diet (dieting and medications can do that to your hair), any other health issues (nails and skin also good indicators), using the wrong products?????

I know I am losing more hair than I normally do and have decided it must be the crazy peri menopause thing. Preparing me for the evils of that craziness.

Once you limit things/reasons then it’s easier to try to fix or limit.

Nexxus makes a product line called Vitatress which was made to help with cancer patients and their hair concerns. Great product if you can find it.

Phyto also has some great products for thinning and breaking.

    • Good advice Vikki. I was loosing a lot of hair in the shower and it was breaking. I was using good shampoo but then I started using an organic shampoo without sulfates and other harmful things for your hair and I have noticed a difference. Hardly any hair loss and it looks healthier. I tried the biotin but for me it didn’t seem to do anything.

    • Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I’ve heard other people talk about biotin so I think I will give that a try...and maybe even an organic shampoo/conditioner. I use a chemical hair relaxer but thinking I won’t be doing that anymore...I’ll just let it be natural.

Vikki I’m not sure what the cause of my hair thinning is. It’s been happening for a few years and I just assumed it was because I’m getting older...but I’m also stressed so that may have something to do with it. I need info on that perimenopause though. I’ve heard others talk about it but don’t know much about it.
