Q & A

Have you ever watched the cable show:HOARDERS? I have never watched it but heard of the horror stories, but I’m beginning to think my hubby is headed that way. Do you or anyone you know have a hoarding problem?

    • I am the type of person who has a place for everything and likes everything to be in its place. I can’t stand clutter and junk and he was brought up in that type of household his whole family is junky. This is driving me crazy lol, he never puts anything where it belongs and I feel like I’m walking behind an infant child picking up and putting up. He has so much unnecessary stuff that just makes no sense to me, why??? So much of his stuff is so irrevelant and he is so anal when it comes to getting rid of his clutter, uggggggh somehow I must get to him to make him see it doesn’t make sense let alone make a pretty picture of how he lives.tongue out

    • Yes, my mother is a hoarder, not of trash, but she shops and shops and shops and keeps EVERYTHING. Can barely walk through a path in her house.

    • I’m a hoarder but not as bad as some people on the show Hoarders.  I’m learning to control what I save and what I get rid of.

    • My Mother-N-Law was a hoarder, very very bad one. She wouldn’t let anyone in her house not even her sons cause she didn’t want anyone seeing how she lived or she was afraid they would take it all away. frown

    • I watch it all the time. I believe watching it kind of keeps me on my toes.
I too have a place for everything, but I also love to collect old things, anything old...lol I also collect 60’s and 70’s pyrex bowls, I just love them.
My husband will bring anything home to store, never to be seen or used again. I have to go behind him often and purge. I don’t tell him of course and he never mentions it again.

    • I saw that show “How clean is your house” and it is repugnant..sometimes men have a tendency to keep lots of things..“toys” as they put it because it gives them a sense of identity and they are all guilty of it, some worse than others...also remember Felix Unger from the Odd Couple?..he was so clean, it drove his friends nuts.estaticestatic

    • @Mamapan that is what I mean about an illness - when they go to peoples houses with how clean is your house you find people living in one tiny space like the sofa and the rest of the house is a death trap
Last year a woman died and the police sniffer dogs couldn’t find her body as there was so much rotting food in the house putting of scent - they found her months later and another women died after all the rubbish fell on her ....
I know some stems from mental illness but seriously why would your friend let her son live in this ...... and to have just one burner

    • I watch both Hoarders and How Clean is Your House (I almost fell off my chair when Kim and Aggie visited Gordon Ramsey and when she squeezed him he cussed and said it was like being hugged by a baby rhino LOLOL). Hoarders is my favorite because the amount of stuff (as well as the size of the heaps) are absolutely mind boggling. Because there are organizers who come and help the hoarders get their places in order, I learn a lot of tips because I am and come from a long line of pack rats (different from hoarders). Basically since I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and bathroom those 2 areas are the least cluttered. I hate cleaning, because I can’t find anything afterward, then wind up tearing the place apart looking for whatever I can’t find.

I have seen some really eye opening stuff on Hoarders & the other show Hoarders: Buried Alive . When the piles are higher than your head, you barely have a footpath through every room and you're using your bathtub as a storage space, you need psychiatric help.

I moved into this apartment 22 months ago and my living room still has some piles and heaps left from the move. I don’t have time to sort through all that mess which is 20+ years old and some belonged to my mother and grandmother. I have a few collections of artwork, books, magazines from years ago that are no longer in business, writing, music and movies. But thanks to Hoarders, I toss a lot, donate a lot and just say no to myself in the stores so I don’t bring even more home. And at least once a week I spend hours going through a 3×3 foot space. I’m in no hurry, just want to clear a lot of it out so I can finally buy a couch.

Neicy, you and your husband should watch Hoarders. If you see some similarities, get a professional organizer before it’s too late.
