Q & A

There is a good possibility my company will be relocating me this next year to Atlanta, GA and I’m hoping to see if anyone from here has any tips on what to ask for in my relocation packet as well as information on the Atlanta area etc.  Our office down there is located in Norcross so I know I will want to be somewhat close to that area.  I don’t have children so school districts aren’t a consideration for us.  We don’t currently own a home so we will be renting there as well.  We will have to find work for my husband.......

I appreciate any input anyone can offer!  Thanks.

    • I live about 2 1/2 hours from Atlanta!  So you are currently living in Nevada?  You’ll be going from one hot summer to another...except Atlanta will be humid in the summer.  It’s pretty cold there right now.  My niece lives in the Atlanta area....Gwinnett County (Sugarhill, GA) and my nephew is an attorney in Atlanta...he lives downtown...(Fulton County).  I can get my niece to gather some info up for you about Norcross etc...and mail it to you if you like.  What kind of work would your husband be looking for?

I’m right out side of Augusta, GA but in South Carolina...on the state line.

    • heart The type of moving package you can ask for depends on your position with company and how long you have been with company.
In my company if asked to relocate and your upper senior management regional and up they pay for you to go out twice to find housing. Moving costs of moving company, driving meal per day or shipping of car % and the flight. I have even heard for some a package if spouce is leaving job to move .but thats very rare.
call your hr department they should have info for u.
And congrats a very exciting chapter

    • Thanks ladies..........companies still do relocation package but alot have been put on hold due to the economy etc.  I’m middle level management so we’ll see what they come back with.  I’m not looking to make money on the move just don’t want to go backwards doing it.

MC - thank you so much for the info!  I’m originally from the St. Louis area so I’m full aware of the humidity and while my skin will be VERY thankful I’m going to dread it lol.  The high desert of Reno has been incredible.  The weather is never what I call bad.  We don’t have the humidity or the bone chilling cold of the Midwest but we don’t have that very arid climate....so now I have winkles as a result lol.

Time will tell how all of this plays out.........I appreciate the input ladies!
