    • Do you like the shade of gray you are turning?  If it’s a pretty gray, go with it.

As for cut, there is no such thing as “age appropriate“.  You get a haircut to compliment the shape of your face not your age.

I know I’m very outspoken on this subject, but I don’t believe women have to have short hair just because they are over 40 or 50.  Some of the most beautiful gray hair I’ve ever seen is waist length hair.

    • Well let me start off with 42 is NOT old so why would you even go there?

Secondly you are in the best stage of your life so go out and enjoy it.

The hair thing.... all depends on texture and condition for cut and color. Also depends on what you have time, patience and ability to do. And nothing else!

    • I’m 42 and going gray, my take on it is “I don’t see it after I fix my hair (if I even bother to fix it) and if I can’t see it, it doesn’t bother me. I’m still wearing my hair long.

But I think it is really a matter of choice, and as for cut, I agree with Tulip.

    • I had to stop coloring my hair (couldn’t tolerate the chemicals) and I don’t look good with short hair, so I’m natural and have long hair. It works for me. I’m with Tulip on this, do what looks good for you and never mind “age appropriate“.

    • It’s according how you feel about your gray. I am 54 and dye my hair perhaps once or twice a year. I have long hair so I dyed it when my pony tail began to look like a gray broom. Even my eyebrows are gray and have been for about 15 years. It gets me a seat on the bus sometimes which is fine with me, but other than that, I’m comfortable with the skin (and hair) I’m in.

    • I agree that going gray is your personal option also. I also thaink that hair styles should be picked based upon your preferrence, I have several Aunt’s Cousins and My Mother (she had short hair most of my life then once she retire was tired in the mainteence and let it grow out) who looked wonderful with long gray and/or white hair

    • I have coloured my own hair since I was thirty and kept it long until 42. I would be a little uneasy about growing the dye out now but I am thinking of having a change maybe go a little lighter and shorter. I also like the bob cut on grey hair it looks great.

    • This is why I was asking about changing up make up a little time ago. If we don’t color our hair, we will need do something with our make up for some color so we don’t look like part of the cast of “Twilight“. ;oD

    • The bob style is gorgeous and I bet just about every woman can wear that style in some form...I have been coloring my hair since the age of 40 and as Melissa mentioned, the coarseness is the problem for me also, so the coloring helps maintain softness and shine..and I’ll probably be coloring the rest of my life, as I turn 50 this year.happy
