Q & A

I’m a little blue. I have a great flexible very PT job that I’ve had for years. It’s great because I can forget it when I get home and work on art and my other business. I’m known for being an excellent employee. Doesn’t matter. My hours were cut today because other people I trained are taking on my hours. It’s a corporate decision. They are paid much less. I don’t so much mind losing the hours. I mind not being valued. Been there?

    • Signs of the times is right.  I found out at a PT job that I just let go of (for personal reasons)that the rate at which I was being paid is more than $4.00 per hour less.  The company I have come to realise have terminated a lot of the “old” staff, have hired a whole set of young people at a ridiculous rate.

      I feel your pain.

    • I am sorry you are going through this. Years ago, I experienced a similar situation. Unfortuneatly, it seems like it is becoming a more common trend.

Is there anything else you would like to do? Recently, I listened to a life coach on a radio program on job loss and  how to reinventing yourself. Her advice was to get into the mindset of “What would I really love to do now?” and treat the lay off or cut in hours as an oportunity to do something you different, fun and something you really love.

Best wishes and keep us updated!

      Mary

    • Sorry this happened to you!  I’ve seen it around here that companies will hire the younger, cheaper workers over those with experience.  It doesn’t seem like a good way to run a business in the long run.  I also wonder how we‘re all supposed to work until we‘re nearly 70 to collect the maximum social security, yet the companies aren’t valuing and retaining the seasoned workers.

I hope you get to spend more time doing what you love (maybe spending it with that cute little dog of yours). heart

    • I agree with what everyone else has said.  I can only imagine how that made you feel.  Unfortunately in today’s business world...we have people in higher up places that really do not care about PEOPLE in general.  The almighty dollar dictates these people’s morals and the sheer fact of doing the right thing by people.

Take this time to re-invent yourself...

    • I work for the school district and every year we are in fear of losing hours due to the budget cuts.  So my hours have gone up and down.  Sadly, my co-workers and I also feel that we are not appreciated too.

Hang in there. Good things will come your way. heart

    • Your situation is very similar to what happened at my place of work.  I have alot of responsibility with my job and can be called to come in on short notice.  However, I am never shown
any appreciation. My hours were also cut.
      You are not alone!
