    • And let me explain why. When I was getting marrying and for a bridal shower gift this person gave me a gift basket that apparently someone gave her sometime ago and she regifted it to me, it was still wrapped in the plastic but in the creased of it you could see the dust and dirt from settlement, I would assume she had it in her bathroom on a shelf. That was the most disgusting thing ever. I tossed it in the trash and she didn’t get a thank you card either.

    • I never have, but I did get a re-gift from someone once complete with the note that was intended for them still inside the gift.

    • Oh honey how embarrassing ....
In our block of flats we have an elderly concierge and she is a famous re-gift person. I bought her a vase she has admired in a local shop and she gave it my mother in law for her birthday ..... She has given me a mug for Christmas which I know my neighbour bought her – I've bought her a plant so she can't do it with my gift !

    • Yes I have . My best friend gave me a hand puppet making kit ( what was she thinking...I don’t know ) so I sent it to my nephews for a christmas gift along with the gifts I got them and they loved it .
I think if you don’t want the gift and cant exchange it you can give it to someone who would like it, but don’t give old stuff around your house away as a gift .

    • I don’t believe in re-gifting.

What I have done is give the gift to someone who I know would like it and was HONEST with them, saying, I got this as a gift, either I don’t need it or like it, would you like it.

I would never pass off a re-gift as my own.

It is better to be honest.

    • When I got married the first time around, I got a lot of duplicates of things.  I put all the duplicates in the closet (and kept them clean and boxed up- no dust or anything) and gave them as wedding presents to other friends who were getting married.  We had a lot of weddings to go to that year, and I never would have been able to afford gifts for them all otherwise.

Usually if I get a Christmas gift I hate, I’ll wait awhile and then box it up to go to Goodwill or if it’s something one of my kids can use, I’ll give it to them.

teeky—all eight reindeer!?!? That had to be hideous!

    • I personally  have not done that and doubt if I ever could...just seems so impersonal...I like the idea of choosing a gift for a person and giving it with thought and love...happy

    • Have not... that’s a good idea I think LoL!!
If I get something I’m not fond of I try and return it or just give to Goodwill.
My former mom in law gave me a cereal dispenser this past Spring. Now how long do you think cereal would stay in a dispenser?? in my house??
Gave it to Goodwill!! Found out later that my ex & his new wife gave it to her for Christmas.
Come to think of it I should’ve sold it on eBay... I know it was one of those overpriced gifts they‘re so proud of giving
      LoL!!
