What do you think of this story in the Daily Mail – a single woman Carole Hobson of 58 gives birth to twins via IVF – she spent £20,000 ($32,000) and underwent five rounds of IVF treatment — using donor eggs and sperm -They were conceived in a Mumbai laboratory with donor eggs from a 24-year-old Indian woman and donor sperm from a Scandinavian engineering graduate.
Six resulting embryos were implanted into Carole's womb. An early scan revealed she was carrying triplets and at 13 weeks Carole opted to selectively reduce the pregnancy because of the risk to her own and the babies' health.
She is now "wondering "what she has done – do you think considering she had well and truly gone through menopause she and the doctors at a price played against mother nature – so when the twins hit teenage years she will be in her mid 70's .......... When most other pensioners will be having fun and relaxing she will be car pool and dealing with dating/ Facebook etc

My personal view is she has been very foolish and those poor children will be paying a heavy price - its seems very selfish and all about her needs and not those of the twins
I would be interested to hear your thoughts ?
I cant even begin to imagine having kids at 46 let alone 58! Why????? These poor kids will go thru their young adult lives playing nursemaid possibly to their mother and their own kids. Is this a selfish thing on her part? I think so!
Ok so now I should go read the rest since I have left my initial reaction.....

I agree I read it twice I was so gobsmacked about her actions - she should have bought a dog - oh sorry she has two of those and now can’t walk them due to the babies !
'Some people might accuse me of being selfish or going against nature, but isn't it going against nature to perform transplants or heart surgery?
Her comment above is selfish as making a baby in a test tube is not the same thing as a heart transplant. IMO
I guess to each ‘her’ own, but there is a reason she went through menopause...
But hey, they will be raised by nannies it seems once she goes back to work....
I agree 100% with you Mz T and to me that sounded like a contrived , rehearsed statement when she knew there would be uproar about her age ......
I for one could never go through that now and I’m ten years younger - the thought of all that sleepless nights, bottles and feeding on demand and then just leaving the house was like going on tour for months with everything you have take ...
I’m on to second phase - grandchildren as and when I’m blessed
I don’t get it why a woman past menopause would think at her age she has to have babies?
We have a nature cut off date for good reason, and one is our age is past time for a viable pregnancy and 58 is the age to be a grandmother, not a mother with new borns. Adopting an older child that Really needs a loving parent or two, is to me a more logical choice. The number of teens that have nobody wanting them that could make a difference is sad.
Cathie
Cathie your so right - why she couldn’t adopt an older child and give it a great start is beyond me - why go through a difficult life threatening pregnancy - abort one and have two very ill twins at that age .......which she is going to pay someone to look after
Vicki, she could have made a Huge difference for a teen needing a mother and all the money she spent for the invetro could have been a college fund! I think she isn’t thinking beyond her own self and she’s selfish.
The question is, do doctors collaborate with such women for the money or a science lab
experiment? Because it is a science lab experiment at her age.
Cathie
FIFTY EIGHT!?
All I can say in short is, OMG and WTF all at the same time.
Selfish.
Careless.
Issues, to be sure.
Putting herself and babies at serious risk, in the name of...WHAT? If I were related to her, I’d likely have many things to say to her. Who could help it?
I’m also thinking financially, that $ could have been better spent ELSEWHERE. Not that THAT is the most important thing. It’s just selfish in all aspects.
She went to India as they will just take the money and sod the consequences in the UK no doctor would do this - so by going of to India she knew it was wrong but selfishly proceeded and she doesn’t mention her family - I bet her parents are in their late 70’s /80’s so not much use help wise...... a nightmare
Selfish is an under statement, and you don’t really want to know what I really want to say lol.
"As you open the door to new relationships and remove the chain from your own fears, God will overwhelm you with new splendor."
LOL@UKGirl, naw I’ll keep it to myself because it won’t be nice nor clean lol.
"As you open the door to new relationships and remove the chain from your own fears, God will overwhelm you with new splendor."
LOL @ Neicy...I hear ya....I for one think it very selfish and unfair for those children...that’s it and that’s all...
I think the sad thing is once people have seen her do this other older selfish women will do the same ......
Vicki,
I hope she will NOT start a pattern for others. It’s crazy and selfish and unfair to those kids.
She’s crazy beyond words!
I’m ten years younger and there is no way on earth I would put my body thru that! And the way I forget things, I’d forget what I named the babies, or forget where I left them!!!
She’s beyond selfish, she’s just plain too stupid for words.
Tulip
What is wrong with her? Who wants to be a mother at 58 of babies???? I can understand taking kids in or family member BUT to plan and have kids at 58... Imagine those poor kids in first grade with grandma no I mean mom coming to school. What about at 14....
How can you enjoy them when your in bed at 5:00 and always going to early bird specials when going out to eat.
Plus what was wrong with the doctor?? Plenty.. But dollars talk.
There has to be something unstable in both her and the doctor!
Yes we are sane - just feel for those babies - As she went to India she was able to do this and sadly where there is money someone will always bend the rule so cross the moral boundary
Be interesting if they come back to this story in say five years time and see what’s happened and how much her ageing has accelerated.
It would interest me, I’m curious on what she thinks of her decision when the twins are 5 years old. Some of the things my kids thought up to entertain themselves with and the big messes they made! OMG!!!
Cathie
I had a hard enough time giving birth at 26, could not imagine 58.
Apparently, there is something very serious missing in this woman’s life..is it her sanity?..who knows, but you are right, it is not fair to the children.
