  • Ode to our friend Beauie

Posted on Tuesday, August 5, 2008

Our beloved Beauie is leaving us today. He's been with us for a wonderful 16 years as a faithful, loving and placid cat.

As a kitten he did the normal kitten things and was naughty but once he grew up he became a faithful companion, a good friend, always keeping company with any member of the family who was unwell or down. He would curl up beside them or on their laps - he loves laps!

It was Beauie who helped me on my blogging journey in December 2005 at my family [Link Removed]  Beauie had disappeared for 4 days in the sweltering 40+C heat and when he came back home on Boxing Day, he was hungry, thirsty and injured. We found a Vet that was open in that holiday season and he was patched back up again and I posted a photo - that was when I got my very first blog comments and I got hooked!

As an aged cat he did not like the younger cats jumping all over him and he would soon let them know about it - he was quite vocal when he chose to be. My husband’s lap was always his favourite and it was not unusual for Beauie to come into the office at night and demand Graham's lap, or even push Graham aside so he could curl up to sleep in Graham's office chair. We'd put a pillow there just for Beauie!

As he got a lot older he would curl up under Graham's desk so he was near the heating vent to draw warmth. Sometimes he liked to be on top of the desk too and would find a place in Graham's filing tray. He's always been Graham's cat but is loved by every member of the family.

Last night three of our girls were here at home to say their farewells to him and he got lots of pats and cuddles and ear rubs - which he loves.

It is with sadness we have to let him go. He has contracted a kidney disease and after a couple of weeks of medication, special diet and two hospital stays and an intravenous drip, the vetinerary staff advise there is nothing else they can do for him and he is just wasting away in front of our eyes. Poor Beauie with those beautiful round golden orb shaped eyes who looks at you like he is speaking just to you. We love you Beauie and will never forget you.

  • Are You Setting Yourself Up For Failure?

Posted on Thursday, June 26, 2008

Some people are sent to try us! There are some people in our lives who are constantly calling us on to do things for them, get them out of trouble, sort out their problem and so on. You know the type of person don't you? I'm sure you do. We have someone like that in our lives too. We love her dearly but do get frustrated that she just doesn't seem to be able to organize herself and often calls because she needs our help to get her out of a situation.

Most of the time it's because of bad planning. The problems arise because she suddenly thinks of something she needs and has forgotten and, because I work from home and am here 99% of the time, with the car, guess who gets called to rush to her aid?

I get torn between going to help her out of trouble, and leaving her to sort it out - she needs to start becoming independent. This person is in her mid 20s and is very intelligent and capable, but lacks organization.

Perhaps it's not that you know someone like that, but you might be like that yourself and you find yourself in the bad habit of just not planning ahead, not foreseeing your needs and then having to lean on someone at the last minute because you can't sort it out alone.

All through verses 10-31 of Proverbs 31, the wife and mother is shown to be someone who plans, looks ahead, considers things before she does them, and sets about her tasks vigorously. There is not a hint of indecision, of last minute rushes, of failing to achieve. In fact, the second half of verse 27 says she does not eat the bread of idleness - this indicates to me that her mind is always on what needs to be done, and what there is ahead of her.

If you are someone who fails to plan, the old saying says that you are planning to fail, and there is some truth in that. None of us can see ahead to what might be, but we can certainly plan ahead for what could be.

Are you setting yourself up for failure or are you planning to be organized and ready for whatever lies ahead? It's your decision. But if you find you can't manage it alone, then know that you can call on God to help you. Lay it all before Him and ask Him to help you be more organised in your day, every day.

  • Are You a Proverbs 31 Woman?

Posted on Saturday, June 14, 2008

Do you long to be like the Proverbs 31 Woman?  Running a business at home, caring for family, always getting it together?  So do I, but it’s not easy. However, chatting and sharing with others who have the same interest goes a long way to finding little ways we can achieve some of these things we all long for.

I’ve been a work at home mom for over 14 years and my 5 daughters have grown up with me at home - and I’ve been running a fulltime business at the same time.  Why not join me and others with this interest at the Proverbs 31 Woman forum?

  • You're only as happy as your saddest child...

Posted on Saturday, April 12, 2008

Just heard this listening to Brian Houston at Hillsong Church.  What an interesting comment that is - he’d heard someone else say it.  Makes you stop and think, doesn’t it?

How happy are your children?  And is there anything you can do to improve their state of mind?

Whilst our kids are young we have a lot of input in their lives but as they grow older and the external influences increase, our own influence on their lives changes considerably.

Perhaps whilst they are still young we need to concentrate more on helping them have a happy outlook on life which should set a pattern for them as they grow older.

Which leaves me to ask you a simple question.  How happy are you?
