  • A Poem for Daddy - One Year Anniversary of Dad's Death

Posted on Thursday, July 12, 2012

(I wrote this last year and thought I would share)

I miss my daddy but I’m grateful I had so much time with him.

    Be grateful!

I miss my daddy so very much
I long for his simple touch
A week or so before he passed
he touched my face;my chin he grasped
he said I am a part of him
and shortly after his lights went dim
He’ll always be within my heart

That very special and wonderful part
that holds him dearly every day
    in every single wonderful way
I’m not saying the man was a saint
that’s not the picture I want to paint
but he learned his life lessons and had plenty of growth
my mother didn’t so he had enough for the both
he became the dad we always knew he could be
and with that it made me see
that you can change at any age
you can even get rid of horrible rage
learn from your mistakes and learn to grow
you may enjoy things you don’t know- you don’t know

Allow the goodness to come out in your heart
and in some relationships you’ll gain a new start
    A good man

He was always a good man I’m not saying he was bad
he just held grudges from when he was a wee lad
he found it hard to let go of certain things
and when you do that your heart can’t sing
I don’t think he ever truly let go
but he listened and learned to grow
and loved us dearly...this we know.
    He’s truly missed

    We miss you dear one
    at least we had fun
    your friends from younger days
    are singing your praise
    talking about all the fun
when you basked in the sun
    you lived a full life
    two daughters a wife
    especially towards the end
    when we became friends
    what a glorious time
    you made that long climb
to the man you grew into
    my daddy - you!
    Love you!
