A Manhattan restaurant that’s made a cottage industry of ridiculously expensive menu items — like a $1,000 sundae and $69 hot dog — has just debuted a $295 cheeseburger. Serendipity 3, the Upper East Side ice creamery, beloved of grandmothers and their best-behaved offspring, is now offering (with 48 hours notice) a Wagyu beef patty infused with 10-herb white truffle butter. According to the Daily News, other accompaniments include: “Salish Alderwood smoked Pacific sea salt,” “white truffle-buttered Campagna roll,” a fried quail egg, “Kaluga caviar, farm-raised in Quzhou, China,” and shaved black truffles. It’s all “speared” with a diamond-encrusted solid-gold toothpick, which of course jacks up the cost and the P.R. value.
