  • Take a Bite Out of the Gas Crunch and Get Paid to Drive

Posted on Sunday, October 19, 2008

With gas at an all time high, many people are cutting back on everything, including their food and basic living needs. The American population has been hit hard by the gas crisis simply because in most parts of America, there are no feasible means of mass transportation.

Because of the lack of mass transportation and affordable fuel choices, many Americans have had to make some tough choices. Some have left their places of work, in many cases places they have worked for many years, simply because they cannot afford to pay the gas bill at the end of the month. Others have chosen to move closer to their jobs, uprooting their lives and changing their way of living.

    saving on gas

All this has led to, in some cases, a lesser quality of life. There are a few solutions out there that can help you during this gas crisis, besides the obvious choices of riding a bike or walking. You can live more and spend less!

    1. Check your local supermarkets and find out if they have a gas rewards program that goes with your super saver card. What is a super saver card? It's a free card that you sign up for in order to receive extra savings at your local supermarket or grocery store. Piggley Wiggly has a program like this, as do many others grocery stores across the nation. Check [Link Removed]  for a list of stores that have this option available. It cost nothing, but gives you gas rewards at the pump. Think of it as paying yourself to purchase groceries!
    2. Check to see if your local newspaper, news station or transportation commission might be sponsoring some type of rideshare program. Recently, The Metropolitan Transportation Commission in Oakland sponsored a 511 Rideshare program. What is a rideshare program? In this case, anyone who signed up for ridesharing and at least tried it, was given a certificate towards $100 of gas or groceries.
    3. Use your car to receive free gas! Did your eyes deceive you? Or were you reading correctly? Yes, that's what I said, free gas! There is a program, provided by [Link Removed]  that utilizes people's cars for advertising. Perhaps you have seen cars that look like traveling billboards. Or buses that have a saran wrap type of billboard on them? That's what freegashelp.com does. Check it out! You might be just the person they are looking for in your town!

These are just a few simple ways that may help you save money on your gas, putting extra money back in your pocket. That's money you can use to pay off your debts or put into a savings account.

  • 12 Free or Inexpensive Ways to Go Out and Gave a Good Time

Posted on Wednesday, September 17, 2008

Why wait for fate to plan your date when you can have the most fun with only a little money, and just a little planning? How many times have you sat around with friends and family pondering what can be done with free time, but no one can come up with anything other than dinner, rent a movie or to go see one?  BORING!  But what about other times when no one has the money to go out? Does that mean you have to stay in and watch TV?  No way!

Having a fun day out with family, friends, your boyfriend, girlfriend or spouse does not have to be a costly affair. Many fun and fantastic date and outing ideas will cost you very little money if any. The following is just a list of a few ideas that will help you when everyone is stuck for an entertainment idea, or short on cash.

This list of fun ways that you can spend time that either cost very little money or none at all (there are expensive, but most are not). Some of these are seasonal or are conducive to areas that have a specific type of weather.

    1. Go ice-skating on a pond (you will need ice skates).
    2. If you own a motorcycle, take a ride around your neighborhood.
    3. Barbeque (grill out).
    4. Build a sand castle and barbeque at the beach.
    5. Check out local farms in your area. Some of them may have free tours of their facilities and tutorials showing how they are run, which can be very interesting and a great time. If you have a candy factory in your neighborhood, they often give free tours and free samples too!
    6. If you have a fireplace, curl up next to a fire and listen to music, dance by it or watch a movie. Make some popcorn and talk about past fun times and laugh. If you choose to dance by the fire, just move some of your furniture to accommodate you and have fun.
    7. Dare to dream together about fun things you want to plan for the future. Think outside the box. There is an old saying: “I asked God for a quarter and a quarter is what I got. What I didn’t know was, I could have asked for a $1.00 and He would have given it to me instead.” So think outside that box!
    8. Purchase some stale bread at the bakery or the store for $.75 (or free at some stores) and feed the ducks at your park if they allow it. While you‘re there, why not go fishing?
    9. Go out for a cappuccino or an ice cream.
    10. Many theme parks have nightly firework shows. Why not pack a car picnic bag and go to the edge of the park, park your car where it’s safe and legal to do so and have a picnic under the fireworks?
    11. Check out your local pet store and check out the animals. It’s like going to a free zoo.  Some cities also have free or very inexpensive zoos. Why not visit one?
    12. Go to a chess cafe and learn the game or play if you know how. Some parks have chess games going on, and you can get into the action free.

  • Back to School Savings

Posted on Monday, August 25, 2008

When it’s just about time for the kids to head back to school, but you‘re short on cash after all of the summer activities, what can you do? Head to the ‘Back to School’ days at your locals stores of course.

Many stores (in fact most) have some of the largest sales during back to school time (July ? October so it's also a great time to get that Christmas shopping out of the way!).  These sales can lead to massive savings.

As an example, Mervyn’s begins the third week in July and runs through August. Additionally, Mervyn’s works with a selected charity to help provide free clothes and other school items to underprivileged children.

If you know a child who would benefit from this program, please contact your local Mervyn’s in April at the very latest to find out how you can get a child enrolled in the program.

Savings at many stores is not all about the kids. Teachers can save as well. Staples and Office Depot have special savings programs for teachers who need to buy supplies. To find out more, contact [Link Removed]

You will find an extensive list of stores in my book, Shop for a Day with Jaci Rae ? How to Get Almost Anything for Free or Next to It or you can go to the site, www.thequeenofgreen.com to find stores that are in you area and when they have their sales.

Even if you don't have the money to shop at regular stores, great savings can be found everywhere! Check your local rummage sales for incredible bargains. I have purchased name brand items that still had the tags on them for $0.25 up to $1.75 each. Goodwill and the Salvation Army stores have great items for a fraction of the cost.

Go to websites like freecycle.com and look for bargain basement stores in your area as well as on the net. For Back-to-School supplies, be sure to go to K-Mart, Target and Wal-Mart to name just a few stores.

There you will find bundles of binder paper for 10 for $1 and pens, pencils, backpacks, calculators, erasers and every kind of school supply you can think of for a fraction of the cost. Stock up for the entire year so you won't have to go shopping during a time that the items you need aren't so inexpensive.

Target gives a portion back to the community so I always enjoy shopping there. Why not check with your neighbors and do bulk shopping together to split the costs. Help the teachers while you're at it and buy some supplies for them.

All of these ideas are simple ways to save a lot of money.

  • 8 Ways to Save Money and the Environment by Going Green

Posted on Sunday, August 17, 2008

Going Green is the cause celeb of the day, but if you really look at history, going green has been a cause for many people from the get go. The following are a eight tried and true methods to help you go green, which will not only save you money, but will help you help to save the environment for generations to come.

1.Make your own baby food. Cook veggies of any kind as well as meats and other healthy foods and process them in your food processor or blender until they are creamy and smooth. You will not only save money, but also save on the jars and packaging that are needed to package the baby food you purchase in the store. Additionally, the food will be much healthier for your child, because you know exactly what you have used and put into it.

2.Shop at rummage sales and go online to places like [Link Removed]  This will help save the environment by reusing items that normally would end up in landfills as well as save your pocket book from spending a lot more money than you need too.

3.Use cloth diapers instead of disposable ones as much as possible. Yes, they have an odor that stays around and yes, you have to wash them, but you will be saving money from the expense of buying disposable diapers as well as saving the environment because of the sheer volume of diapers that are put into landfills on a daily basis.

4.If you own a company with a commercial printer, change to soy-based ink instead of using petroleum-based ink. Soy based ink is roughly the same price, but you will be saving the environment from toxins produced by ink and the cartridges used to carry the ink.

5.Ride your bike to work, walk, take the bus or better yet, talk to your employer about setting up an incentive program for employees who commute to work together. The rising cost of gas as well as the toxins produced from the carbons is incentive enough to use any one of these methods.

6.Replace old light bulbs with energy efficient light bulbs. You will save money on your electric bill and when the energy efficient light bulbs are on sale, you will be saving a lot of money on the purchase price as well. The environment is also helped by using less energy.

7.Use an energy efficient space heater instead of your house heater. Move the space heater into whichever room you and your family are occupying at the time (be sure to unplug it when someone is not in the same room to monitor it). Why pay a lot of money to heat parts of the house you are not in. Save money on your electric bill and help save the environment by putting the green in your pocket instead of sending your green to the electric company.

8.Use Energy Star appliances and file for the rebates, refunds and tax credits that are allowed when you purchase such appliances. You will again be putting the green in your pocket and saving electricity, which helps the environment.

There are many more ideas you can come up with on your own. The point is to go green and save your green for a better future for your children, their children, and a better retirement when you start using your retirement fund that was bolstered by your money saving acumen.

  • 11 Grocery Store Saving Tips and Dining Saving

Posted on Thursday, July 3, 2008

No matter how tight your budget gets or how much money you aren’t bringing home after taxes, you can count on one thing, you and your family will always need food. There are many ways to save on food shopping. The following are 11 money saving tips when you make your trek to the grocery store.

    1. Buy what is known in the grocery industry as ‘loss leaders.’ Loss leaders are overstocked items the store needs to get rid of to make room for the new stock coming in daily. Not enough room on the shelves for all of it can mean big savings for you.
    2. Call your local food store and find out when they typically have sales. You can go too [Link Removed]  to find many stores across the United States and when they have sales. Take advantage of the 'buy one get, one free' or even better ten for $10.00 deals. Recently I observed a sale on nearly all boxes of cereal twenty for $20 or $1 a box at Albertsons. Most of these sales don't even require you to buy all five or ten boxes; you can buy one box for one dollar, or two.
    3. Take advantage of rain checks when there are sales. If the store runs out of the items you want that are on sale, ask the store for a raincheck. Most stores will issue a rain check that is usually good for 90 days. If you drive by that same store every day, you can stop every day and get a rain check every day they are out of stock, if you are ambitious enough.
    4. Look for rebates, fill out the forms immediately when you get home so you don't forget. This is money in the mail and paying yourself back.
    5. Make sure to get great fruits and veggies just about every time. Throwing away your fresh produce is throwing away your money. Here are a few tips to help you avoid throwing away your produce and get the most tasty produce you can.

    Lettuce

Always check inside the bunch, if it’s loose leaf, to see if there is anything that looks old or is wilting. For iceberg lettuce, pick it up and gently squeeze. If it’s firm and heavy, you are getting more for your money.

    Fruits

Most fruits with edible skin, will taste like they smell. If it doesn’t smell like a sweet peach or nectarine, it most likely won’t taste like one either. To help ripen fruits like this faster, put them into a brown paper bag overnight.

Fruit that is cold won’t have as much scent so it’s harder to tell, but may still have a faint odor and will taste like the odor when eaten.

To get a crunchy juicy apple every time, it’s all about the ping. Look at the apple and make sure it doesn’t have any flaws on the outside and is the general color you are looking for.

Hold it to your ear and gently take your forefinger and ping the apple as if you were flicking something off it. Don’t flick too hard because don’t want to bruise it. If the sound is thuddy, dull or hollow, you have a dud. It will be dry, grainy and YUCK! If you hear a high pitch sound that rings, you have a crisp juicy apple that is sure to please.

    Cherries

Cherries should be firm, not soft or they will be mushy and won’t have optimum flavor.  They are too ripe and probably old if they are too soft.

    Corn

Corn should have small kernels or it may be tough.

    Grapes

Grapes should have no rippling in the skin and be firm, but not hard.  Smaller ones tend to be sweeter, larger tend to be overgrown, tough and watery.

These are just a few examples of how to pick your produce.

And here are some more tips:

    1. Buy in bulk. Look at the per ounce on the price tag on the shelf in small writing. Sometimes the per ounce is less expensive than the on sale price. Buying in bulk can really help you save as well, but check prices against places like Sam’s Club and Costco as it may be less expensive there.
    2. Look at unit prices to make sure you are receiving the best deal. Buying bigger doesn't always mean it's the least expensive and visa versa.
    3. Don’t compromise on what you love the taste of, for what you don’t adore, because it’s cheaper. If you do, you will end up not eating it and throwing it away and throwing your money in the trash can again.
    4. Buy the holiday candy you crave on sale and put it in your freezer. Don’t get too much though, because the freezer doesn’t mean forever (freezer burn tastes awful).
During a holiday season one year, my sister and I went around to all of the stores in town (keep in mind that her family are chocoholics) to purchase M&M, Reese’s (all single candy items), Mars, Snickers, and many more that were on sale at a single chain store for ten cents each. Yes, that’s right, $0.10! These were full size bars that normally retail for $0.89 and it wasn’t after Halloween, it was before!
    5. Buy no-name brand snacks at wholesaler stores such as the hostess shop, etc. When you buy the less expensive brands such as “Little Debbie“, and then freeze the ones that are suitable for freezers, you are saving quite a bit of money.
    6. Look down and up, not in the middle when you are in the grocery store. Many stores will put their most expensive items at eye level, because they know that products at eye level sell better. Eye level in stores is considered about from your waist to your shoulders. Less expensive brands will be on the upper or lower shelves. So search for those bargains, by simply looking up, or down!

The most important tip I can offer is the old adage, ‘waste not, want not.’ I am guilty of this, as are many of us, but having been at the other end of poverty, I try to avoid throwing my money in the garbage when it comes to food.

  • The Race to Hate: Is Prejudice and Discrimination an Incurable Disease?

Posted on Thursday, July 3, 2008

The Race to Hate: Is Prejudice and Discrimination an Incurable Disease?

I long for the day when we are no longer defined by race, color, or class, but by a world that is undivided and unified by compassion, understanding and love. The race to hate seems to be gaining speed all the way to the checkered flag.  Are there valid arguments that can support hating one race over another? If there are valid arguments, which race is the race to hate?

Some people believe they have valid arguments with solid conclusions to support their reasons for hating one group of people over another. Are they correct in their convictions? Could you be a person who discriminates with prejudice without even realizing you are participating in the race to hate?

To achieve a better sense of what prejudice and discrimination are, here is how Dictionary.com defines both. "Prejudice?unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, esp. of a hostile nature, regarding a racial, religious, or national group."

"Discrimination?treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit."

Simply put, prejudice is attitudes and hostility based on race, religion, class or physical condition and discrimination is the treatment of an individual based on prejudice because of categories rather than the quality and worthiness of an individual.

Both prejudice and discrimination are based on ignorance and irrational fear instead of being rooted in facts and knowledge and both include negative judgments, feelings and opinions held about certain groups or individuals. The result is the same, the intent to destroy an individual or group with words or actions.

What are the affects of racism and discrimination and should we embrace racial discrimination as a way of life? To find out the affects of racism and discrimination, we only need to look back in our history books. Prejudice and discrimination can be found as far back as recorded history goes. In the United States, prejudice is documented against Native Americans beginning with their dehumanization and enslavement in the 1400's.

Women of any race were considered property by law until the turn of the last century and because of that law, were discriminated against. The Woman's Rights Movement enabled the women of today their freedom's, but prior to that time, women were jailed for freedom, made to earn wages but were not allowed to keep the wages and put into insane asylums or convents when their husbands wanted to be free of them.

Prejudice enabled the enslavement of African's, which resulted in the Civil War in the 1800's as well as the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960's. Prejudice has also reared its head against Asians with a few examples of such crises as the Yellow Peril, when Americans passed the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, as well as the internment of Asian American's during WWII.

Italians have suffered at the cruel hands of prejudice and discrimination too. Italian American's were used to fill the vacancy created by the abolishment of slavery and treated with the same harsh conditions and cruelties. Italians suffered lynching, with one of the largest lynching in American history taking place in 1891. The fear of Italians becoming too prolific played a role in the encouragement of birth control. Congress passed a racially based quota in 1921 to prevent "lowlife undesirablesa" from overwhelming America. That law was not repealed until 1965. In addition, Italian American's were put into interment camps during WWII.

The Latino community has also suffered from prejudice and discrimination. The famous Zuit Suit Riots in 1943 are well-documented accounts of racial violence that resulted from naval service members being stationed in a Latino neighborhood. During that time, large mobs of service members entered into civilian homes to attack Latino youths.

Irish Americans paid a price at the hands of prejudice and discrimination as well. During the 1860's, "No Irish need apply" symbolized the discrimination against Irish immigrants in search of employment. It was widely believed and proliferated through newspapers until the early 1900's that anyone of Irish decent was, "dirty, lazy and stupid."

More recently, because of the attacks of September 11, 2001, those of Arabic decent or those who looked like they were of Arabic decent, have been unjustly subjected to distrust and violence, including murder.

From their enslavement by Egyptians to the Holocaust of WWII, prejudice and discrimination for those of Jewish decent has been more prolific than with any other race. Violent attacks on entire communities that still occur in vast numbers to this day. The Washington Times reported in June 2007:

"Anti-Semitism, one of the world’s oldest hatreds, has resurged with a vengeance. Around the globe, Jews are being assaulted, some even murdered. Synagogues are being attacked. Jewish gravestones are being desecrated by the hundreds. Even the historical fact of the Holocaust is being questioned. The threat today is not existential. There is no room for complacency."

According to the Anti-Defamation League, anti-Semitism is on the rise in America. A survey conducted by the ADL showed that 17% more Americans than the previous year held "hardcore" beliefs about people of Jewish descent. Here is a brief table of their findings in 2002:

    "Strongly anti-Semitic:
    1 of Americans
    35
    of Hispanics
    4 of foreign-born Hispanics
    20
of Hispanic Americans born in U.S.
    3 of African-Americans
    3
of U.S. college and university students"

There is also discrimination against Caucasians in the United States as well. Reverse discrimination is easily identifiable and includes Black Entertainment Television (BET), United Negro College Fund, Latin Grammy's, as well as others forms such as these. Conversely, if Caucasians were to hold the White Grammy Awards, White Entertainment Television or have a White College Fund, they would be shut down, protests would most certainly follow and lawsuits would be filed.

Additionally, statistics taken from the FBI databases and gathered from law enforcement agencies from every state in the U.S., showed that 90% of all hate crimes are inflicted upon Caucasian people by people of African or Latino backgrounds. (The FBI includes in their statistics rape, murder and beatings).

Hate crimes are on the rise in America because of the irrational fear known as prejudice and discrimination. The FBI UCRP (Uniform Crime Reporting Program) showed that most hate crimes in 2005 were based on ethnicity.

Their findings were reported in this order: "anti-black, anti-Jewish, anti-white, anti-homosexual, and anti-Hispanic bias. There are more hate crimes against whites than against Hispanics, Asians, American-Indians and multiple-race groups." The UCRP based their findings on law enforcement agency's filings across the U.S.

Formal hate groups such as, the Ku Klux Klani, the National Allianceii, National Socialist Movementiii, Aryan Nationsiv, Westboro Baptist Churchv, Nation of Islamvi, New Black Panther Partyvii, Nation of Aztl?nviii, Nation of Yahwehviiii, and the White Order of Thulex; still operate in the United States.

The propaganda from these hate groups, helps to spread loathing for a certain race or group from one faction of the population to another. In 2006, SPLCIP (The Southern Poverty Law Center’s Intelligence Project) found there were 844 active hate groups based in the United States alone. In addition to the hate groups previously mentioned, the Internet has given people the ability to proliferate racial discrimination and hate at an alarming rate.

Because freedom of speech is a constitutional right for any citizen of the United States under the First Amendment, as well as international law, under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, Cyber Bullying has reached an all time high.

Due to the instantaneous nature of the Internet, it is easier than ever to reach the masses and spread hate around the world anonymously with a click of a button. With social networking sites gaining in popularity over the years, a new and infinite medium for prejudice, hate and discrimination has begun.  Maggie Fox, Health and Science Editor for Reuters reported the following:

“Internet bullying has emerged as a new and growing form of social cruelty,” Kirk Williams and Nancy Guerra of the University of California at Riverside wrote in one of a series of reports published in the Journal of Adolescent Health. The reports, from researchers organized by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, show a 50 percent increase in the number of kids aged 10 to 17 who said they were harassed online—from 6 percent in 2000 to 9 percent in 2005."

All of these examples were a direct result of racism and discrimination. As the evidence clearly shows, all races have experienced prejudice and discrimination in the United Statesb, not to mention around the world. It is a wide spread epidemic.

What is the cause of prejudice and discrimination and where does it come from? Many times prejudice and discrimination begins within a family or group of people and the indoctrination of an individual may begin with the children inside these clusters at a very young age.

Racism of this type is taught and practiced inside a family unit and may be based on the belief that one race is superior to another or the fallacy of All Apples are Bad hypothesis, i.e. that one bad apple makes the entire bunch bad and therefore the entire bunch is judged on the one bad apple. This type of circular logic is often used when attempting to justify prejudice and discrimination.

Often families and groups that proliferate prejudice and discrimination, will use various forms of rationalization to support their false moral justifications. These people may use scare tactics, peer pressure, arguments by force or outrage and the two wrongs make a right fallacy to influence other people, especially their family members, into believing their claim is true.

Prejudicial judgments based on racial superiority would take too much time and space to consider at this time. Suffice it to say that prejudice and discrimination, based on racial superiority, relies heavily on ignorance and is morally wrong. A judgment based on All Apples Are Bad is also wrong and is not only based on ignorance, but irrational fear as well. To help support my claim that the mindset of All Apples Are Bad is wrong, let me use the following example.

Most people would agree that Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini and Joseph Stalin were evil men. These men helped brainwash many people into believing a certain ethnic populace needed to be exterminated and then proceeded with the extermination.

Hitler was German, Mussolini was Italian and Stalin was Russian. If the All Apples Are Bad theory were correct, then every single person of German, Italian and Russian descent would be an evil person. However, it was not an entire race that committed crimes against humanity, but these particular men and their following. Therefore, the All Apples Are Bad claim is not valid.

To prove that one bad apple does not make all the apples bad, here are a few examples of people from these races, who had integrity and accomplished great things for humanity.

Albert Einstein, known as one of the greatest scientific minds of all time, was German.
Albrecht Duerer, known as "The Genius of German Renaissance," was also German.
Oscar Schindler, known as "The Conscience of German People," single handedly saved more Jewish people from the gas chambers than anyone else. Schindler is a direct contradiction to the All Apples Are Bad theory because he was German and so was Hitler.
Dmitri Mendeleev, known for his invention of the world-famous periodic system of elements, was Russian.
Ivan Pavlov, a famous Russian biologist and Noble Prize Laureate, was Russian.
General Georgi Zhukov, a famous general who defeated the Nazis, was Russian.
Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, a famous Renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, poet and engineer, was Italian.
Mother Theresa, known for her charitable works and peace efforts as well as being a Noble Peace Prize Laureate, was Albanian / Italian
Ernesto Teodoro Moneta, a Noble Peace Prize Laureate for Peace and representative on the Commission of the International Peace Bureau, was Italian.

As the preceding examples show, just because one man of a particular race was evil, does not qualify the entire race that Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin each represented as evil.

Which race is really the race to hate and who will determine which race that is? Will society allow the race to hate to continue?  When we relegate ourselves to our own little clicks of acceptable people in our group, we are practicing discrimination. If we can look past what we see externally and stop judging people by the colors that are inside a paint box or Crayola kit, we may be able to stem the tide of hatred and stop the race to hate dead in its tracks.

On the other hand, can prejudice and discrimination really be stopped? It would seem that one the functions of prejudice and discrimination are to help the discriminator feel good about themselves, and therefore, stopping prejudice and discrimination would depend on the state of an individual person's self-esteem.

Because of that variable, it would take an enormous effort to raise the self-esteem of millions of individuals and then teach them to raise children who also had a high level of self-esteem, coupled with moral values. Therefore, while it is possible, it is also not probable that prejudice will be eradicated with this method.

However, there is a way to begin to quell the tide of prejudice and discrimination one person at a time. In order to wipe out this insidious disease, the layers of internalized images and conditioning from our families as well as our social groups will need to be heavily examined by each person individually.

Questions such as, "Why do I hate this person?", "What is color really and is their skin really yellow, black or white?" "What is the foundation upon which I base my hatred of one race or individual over another?" need to be intensely examined, dissected and discussed with an open mind.

I challenge you today to think about any prejudices or preconceived notions you have about anyone or any group. Take a deep look, using facts instead of opinions, to find out for yourself what you base your prejudice and discrimination on. Be honest with yourself. Is your bias based on the values that were handed down to you during your childhood or are they based on a hatred that is rooted in ignorance and/or fear?

Alternatively, is your prejudice and discrimination based on personal experience or social acceptance? If your prejudice and discrimination are based on personal experience, then are you judging the many based on the one, therefore using the All Apples Are Bad hypothesis? If your prejudice and discrimination is based on social acceptance, then is hatred a space you really want to spend your life in?

Once you have begun to really exam your belief system, then you can begin to make a change. Educate yourself. Find out the facts. Retrain your brain to use verbal language that is not slanting towards another individual such as, "Oh?she's a waitress."; "He's just a janitor."; "Hey Honky." or "What a Chink."

When this kind of language is used, the inference is that these people are beneath you and that inference will transfer into your subconscious mind, which rules 87% of your thoughts and actions. Once that happens, your response to individuals in the categories you have labeled them in, becomes a conditioned response.

If you really want to make a change, become a mentor to other people in your family or social network. Work side-by-side with those you feared most or discriminated against so you can learn from them. This will help you learn that they are not so very different from you. Become a teacher of tolerance instead of a teacher of hate so you can help end the race to hate. One of the most important things you can do is to raise your children or future children without prejudice and discrimination.

No matter what race or class an individual is in, there may always be bad apples in every bunch. However, there are also good apples planting seeds that will bring forth strong and healthy apple trees. If we can weed out prejudice and discrimination in all societies, we can change the world into a place that is worthy to live in. You decide. Which race is really the race to hate?

If you would like to learn more about how to help stop prejudice and discrimination to make a real change in the world around you, here are a few groups that you can become active in.
