Living in Texas on the coast line has it’s advantages AND disadvantges.  We evacuated for IKE.  I thought I had put all my personal belongings up safely.  We live on an island and about 35 minutes from Galveston.  Our house is built up on stilts (thank god!).  We have a storage shed behind the house which was converted into a teen’s room.  I had ALL my family photos in there, my parents, all my childs baby photos up to the age of 18.  Many, many family trip photos.  The water was devasting.  When my son and I went to clean out the storage I broke down.  All of my photos were ruined by water!  I sat down and cried and cried as I tryed to save pics of my parents and my son.  Also high school photo’s I took and developed in school.  I have seen many times on the news about people loosing everything to a fire to a tornado.  I’m well aware of the dangers of where we live.  I never thought it would happen to me. (How naive!).  Since it has, I have more compassion than ever for people who have experienced a loss such as I.  I can visualize the pictures in my head but long for the actual photographs.  Has this happened to any of you and if so how did you cope with the loss?

    • This is one of my greatest fears and it's one of the reasons that I bought a scanner and keep electronic versions of everything.  I do this with photos and videos...and I"ll send a copy of everything to my sister.  It's not the same as having the originals, but at least you can get them reprinted if something happens. I'm so so sorry that this happened to you.  hugs
