      Greetings, All:

I am the mother of a 13-year-old boy who has just lost a friend he’s had since kindergarten in a tragic skiing accident.

I’m feeling a little bit at a loss in helping him cope.  He’s at that stage right now where he prefers to talk to his stepfather rather than me about deep topics, which is fine.  His stepfather and I are both making sure that he knows we‘re available to talk to, and have also been matter-of-fact in our mention of our own grief in front of him, so that we are modeling communication.  His school and teachers are being very good at the same thing, so he has a pretty good support network overall.  I want him to be able to deal with this at his own pace, but am concerned that he really hasn’t talked about it to anyone yet.

If any of you have some tips for me, I’d love to hear them.  Thank you!
