On a similar note to Annie’s question, “What is God to you?“, what is religion?

I originally asked this question in the Q&A and Annie said it would be fitting to post here.

Some of my thoughts and further questions:

Is faith in a deity or someone or something an integral part of religion? Buddhists don’t believe in a deity, but I suppose it could be said they have faith in a higher power, although we each have the potential to be that higher power when we become fully enlightened.

I’ve heard some people say that atheism is a type of religion, without a deity, of course. Some atheists do seem to profess their philosophies in an almost religious way.

      What about unorganized religions?

Do all religions offer some sort of moral guidance? Is that the common thread?

I suppose that’s one of the reasons I asked the question: to find a common thread among all religions.

        • I think religion is what we embrace as a faith..whether it’s faith in God, in science, in money. JOy

        • I just read your clip..and I agree whole heartedly...

I was raised Quaker...and not many people have heard or even considered it a relgion. I have been called a witch...a Puritan..etc etc etc....they are the ones that need a history lesson...MERCY! If someone asks me what Quakerism is all about...the best I can describe it is...there is a lil bit of God in everyone. They can figure the rest out for themselves. The Golden Rule is what I go some.

Perfect example tonight...I went and helped a male friend of mine hang pictures and finish his kitchen turn...we went to go to sleep... he started battling his demons from the war so forth and so on...After several hours of him kicking..swinging..I felt like maybe I was a hinderence of him getting a good night sleep, so I came to the house...needless to say, I hope he sees the note I left
God Bless our troops and the things they face and will face in the future.
