    • I am thinking of painting our fireplace with brick-anew... has anyone ever used this or painted a fireplace at all??

Our living-room is so dark and our brick is darker so it makes it feel real heavy.  I was thinking about choosing a lighter color to hope to lighten it up in here.  That and maybe some solar tubes.

Would love to know if anyone else has done this & what the results were.

    • I’ve seen brick fire places painted white and the mantle sometimes, sometimes not. It will brighten up a room and looks good too. Also have seen paneling painted white to lighten up the “heavy” feel in a room. Solar tubes or a sky light is a good idea. Which direction is your living room facing?

    • Yes, I have and wished I had done it years ago when I finished.  I had same situation.  You will be so happy you did it and it will look fantastic.

    • I only thought about it because I saw it on a DIY show then did some research and really liked the way the brick-anew looked (looks more like a faux-brick pattern).  It is a special paint that withstands heat.

    • My friends have a very old home that is fixed up beautifully.  They painted their brick fire place fuscia and it’s beautiful!  Believe me, you’d have to see it.  It’s a real focal point in the room and looks great!

    • Cathie - It is a North to South.

Thanks ladies... I have been pondering this one for awhile, and I think I MIGHT have my husband convinced (after I showed him some images) so maybe if I ever get done tiling that will be my next project.

Our livingroom is a decent size I think 18 X 22 to the fireplace (entry way on the other side of the fireplace).  The problem is the South entrance with nice lighting is covered by the fireplace and the North entry goes out into a covered screened in porch which eliminates most of the natural light.  If it is cloudy outside it is almost like it is night in my livingroom and I really dislike dark heavy spaces... estatic.

Anyway, thanks for sharing everyone.  I am thinking of going with the brick-anew twilight taupe which will really complement the new tile when I get it laid... lol

    • Melissa that is the stuff I am looking at.  Do you have pics of what yours turned out like?  Also how difficult was it to do and how much did you have to use? (If you remember)  I have been thinking of using the Brick A-new for a few months now.

My husband was against it until I showed him pics from their website.

Ours currently is natural brick the same color as our house sort of different shades of browns reds & oranges... which is fine but way to dark in a livingroom with almost no natural light.
