    • haven’t really heard much about it.
      hmmm next will be myspace

personally, when i had a web graphics site where you actually got things made by me (graphics, sigs, pixel art) my charges were as follows

      1 year 19.99
      2 years 29.99
      lifetime was 39.99

when i had to close it due to health issues I gave the lifetimes cd’s of over 2000 items.

      most paid the 39.99.

    • I received a text asking me to sign the petition. The last time I put my name on a petition and circulated it to my friends I found out later that the original was years prior and that the clause that was left out told the truth about the whole matter. I learned from that experience not to sign anything until after I’ve done some research.

The truth about this petition has not been told nor have I heard anything. I will not sign anyway because if the fee is implemented I’ll just do the same as Neicy and delete my page and blog somewhere elseestatic

    • Mztracy,

I believe that joining a group is the same as signing for the end result is me putting my name to something I know nothing about. Nothing personal intended if anyone else chooses to join.

    • They are not charging - they are going to increase the advert costs - and use increase artifical intelligence so the adverts are aimed at you the viewer alone ...

I think this has now become an urban myth

    • I have been on FB for a while.  That (perhaps) “rumor” is just a “rumor” I believe.  MySpace had rumored to want to go to a fee-based site as well for years.

Both sites are raking in millions(?) of dollars from their advertising partners on their sites.  They would be fools to go to an member based fee site as they would quickly lose many members who can’t afford to join a membership for every site that they enjoy to peruse.

There are too many social networking sites that offer free memberships and charging fees would drive their members in droves to other sites.  I know of one site that offered member based fee structure (similar to this site but on a larger scale).  With the hard economic times, many paid members have dropped paying the monthly fees and moved on looking for something less economically challenging to their pocket book.

If you choose to sign the petition on FB, that is your choice; however, I don’t know how much truth is fueled in that.  They could be stirring up an awareness and re-thinking in the direction to charge by having such a petition in the works; a great backfire heard throughout FB.

    • My boyfriend told me about this.  Told him I thought it was bogus cause they get their $$ from advertising.  If they were to impose a fee I’d be off it in a heartbeat.

    • There’s a long history of this sort of rumor with many of the popular free email and networking sites.  Check out this snopes.com page for a short history: [Link Removed]
