Q & A

Have you ever been a victim of a job advertisement scam?
I thought I’d finally found the perfect job online.  I saw an ad for a part-time job in a field that I was highly qualified.  I submitted my resume as requested.  They e-mailed me back stating that would like more info about me.  In this e-mail they included the name of the company.  I googled the company name and found out it was a scam.  Several other people had actually filled out “insurance” information and their identities were stolen.  I’m glad I discovered this before I had given any more info...but I feel violated.  They have my resume which has my work history, address, references...etc.  This experience has really made me pessimistic about online ads.

    • It’s terrible but it’s the world we live in. A good thing to always google an organization and even take it a step further and call information for a valid number and even the better business bureau if need be. Years ago it was the stuff envelopes from home scam. My mom got caught in that one. She answered the ad and they wanted her to send money for more information and a start up kit. Turns out it was a scam.

    • You have to be really careful and do research on any of them.
Cynthia actually guided me to a site a while back that was very informative. For some reason, it has slipped my mind at the moment.
