Q & A

I posted this question on Product Review because that is what I’m hoping to get from my FAB40 ladies.
I am looking to buy a new sofa. The last sofa I purchased at a furniture store called Haverty’s in Augusta was a piece of crap. I paid over $1000 for it....had extended warranty on it..for like 3 years. Had to use the warranty..to restuff the pillows...and it still was a horrible sofa. I finally just threw the thing out to the road.
Have any of you purchased a regular size sofa....not one with reliners...but a nice basic sofa...(no hideway beds)...that is well built...that you have been very pleased with?  Or do you know of a website that has nice furniture...well built.  I have got muscular big boys at my house..and I need it to be heavy duty...but nice.  I’m looking for a solid chocolate...fabric or dark leather.  Any suggestions?

    • Have you tried Sams or Costco? They usually have decent stuff...
Also there is Furniture Row.... I’m sure you have one there somewhere off the interstate they also have decent stuff.

I have had mainly leather couches in the room used alot by us and leather is the best for holding up IF you get the good leather vs the cheap leather.

My last leather couch lasted me for 8 yrs and was still in great condition when I gave it to my neice. I got it at Gardner White.

Lazy Boy also makes great couches as does Lane.

    • We don’t have a Costco or Gardner White...but we do have a Sam’s and a Lazy boy.  I’m going to the Lazy Boy outlet today.  I guess I’m spoiled...but my father in law use to manage for years a very nice furniture store here in Augusta.  It was very expensive stuff....nice quality...nothing I could afford to just walk in buy..but we got so much at cost when he worked there.  It was evenutally sold and they new people ended up closing it (mainly because they didn’t know how to run a business).  So now....my standards are so high...that it’s hard for me to find what I want.  Then after my last experience with the sofa...I’m gun shy so to speak.

Furniture markup is unbelievable...and I hate paying retail..LOL but I want nice things...LOL

    • My sofa I bought at least six years ago is made by Sealy.  Some company that makes mattresses.  It’s holding up very well.  I don’t have kids on it every single day, but it’s built well enough that any of my large kids can FLOP down on it and nothing has cracked or broken yet.

Lazy Boy makes great stuff.  They have a web site where you can go look at their furniture an see what upholstry is available.

    • Thanks ya’ll...I’m going to Lazy Boy this afternoon.  If I don’t find what I’m looking for there...I may end up going to this outlet up in North, South Carolina.  You can find a piece of furniture wherever in a store...get the item number of it..and go up there..and they will order it for you for a lot less...but they have stuff in stock too.  I’ve seen there stuff and it’s great.  So...I may end up there.

    • I’ve got two Ashley Furniture Sofas one for each living area, the one I flop on most (it is a more formal fabric) could use a restuffing, I paid more for that one than the one my 3 boys flop on. The one the boys use seems to be holding better, it is a deep chocolate suede like material that wipes clean and can take the weight of my boys and all my adopted boys that come visit. I think I paid $500 for it, it might have been less. I’ve had it for about 5 years and still looks new.

    • We use to have an Ashley Furniture outlet but for some reason it didn’t make it.  I thought it was in a good location and had been in there once. The furniture looked okay...but I’m not sure why it closed.  We have a Rooms to Go here but I think it was originally Rhodes Furniture.  We have some other local furniture stores here...that I’ve already checked out and the quality was not there.   We have one other furniture store, Weinbergers (it’s locally owned)...that has pretty nice furniture but they are expensive and I know for a fact the furniture is not as worth what what they are asking by the brands. You know I don’t mind getting a sofa like at Sam’s....but I’m not paying a ton of money for it either. Sofas are not built like they use to be either. I will be turning the sofas over to see how they are built before I buy one. THANKS EVERYONE..I NEED ALL THE GOOD AND BAD STORIES...OF FURNITURE BUYING.

    • I bought a leather sofa and love seat about 7 yrs ago at Sofa Express. I paid 950 for the sofa and 800 for the love seat, they are still comfy but the leather has tiny tears at the seams now. Also the color has lightened in many areas.I do love the comfort of the leather though.
